What are your job responsibilities/duties?

Writing, directing the talent on set (Host, Celebrities, Judges, etc.), coordinating shoots, hiring crews.

What does a typical day look like?

No day is the same! Lots of problem-solving. :)

What do you most enjoy about your job?

Being able to be creative, current and have fun.

What is the most difficult aspect of the job?

Lots of what we do is subjective. You have to be able to think quickly, and work with difficult people/personalities.

What on-campus activities were you involved with? Where did you gain relevant experience?

ISU Musicals!! So fun. Musicals taught me to always have an outlet, and to balance your career with your passions.

How did your experience at Illinois and in the College of Media prepare you for your professional life? For this specific position?

In journalism, we learned what it takes to tell a good story. Character development, attention to detail, credibility: all of these things and storytelling are the foundation of every TV show.

What advice do you have for students interested in this field?

Do your research! Stay relevant. Know what's going on in the world around you. Have an opinion. Follow your instincts. Be confident. Trust yourself.

What is one thing that you know now that you wish you had known when you started in the field?

One thing I know now that I WISH I knew when I started in TV: you know more than you think you do.
