Remembering Brett Two Years Later

As we approach Brett's second birthday since his untimely passing, the importance of his scholarship seems greater than ever. Scholarships are what enable the University of Illinois to recruit and retain exceptional students.

Ledford film screened at festival

Stretch Ledford

“The Eye of Overtown,” an award winning short film by Assistant Professor of Journalism Charles “Stretch” Ledford, was screened at the "Lights, Camera, 305” film festival in Miami, Florida, on Nov. 9, 2017. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation sponsored the festival in conjunction with the Black Lounge Film Series, Third Horizon Film Festival and O Cinema. Click here to watch The Eye of Overtown.

WIRTZ ANALYZES TOBACCO COMPANY CORRECTIVE ADS ON ‘THE 21ST’ RADIO SHOW

Assistant professor John G. Wirtz appeared as a guest Thursday on the radio program “The 21st” in a segment about court-ordered corrective advertisements tobacco companies have recently begun airing on ABC, NBC and CBS. One striking characteristic of the ads is that they feature only words scrolling across a blank screen while an unseen female narrator reads the text in a monotone voice.

That’s the conclusion University of Illinois journalism professor Stephanie Craft and her research colleagues reached in a study being published next month in the journal Communication and the Public.
