Join us for a plática on our family and community histories and how “rememoria” can enable us to remember, recover, and reclaim Latin American and Caribbean diasporic histories. Photo-based artist and community archivist, William Camargo, and post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Media & Cinema Studies at UIUC and co-founder of the ImaginX en Movimiento (IXeM) Memory Collective, Marisa Hicks-Alcaraz, will be co-facilitating the conversation.
To follow, we will be offering a digitization station in which participants can learn how to digitize their family and community photos and VHS tapes using Do-it-Yourself (DIY) methods. Attendees will be invited to watch as we digitize, to ask questions, and to visit the exhibition on old media.
Co-sponsored by the Department of Media & Cinema Studies, the Independent Media Center, the School of Art + Design, and the Community Data Clinic. Catering by Rick’s Bakery
