Within the classroom and out in the field, College of Media students have lots of exciting opportunities to engage in hands-on media-making, across the advertising, journalism, and media and cinema studies industries.
Media students gain real-world experiences through:
- Through ADV 498: The Sandage Project, create an advertising campaign in a service-learning project
- Through various journalism courses, work in a professional newsroom and studio to produce broadcasts on UI7
- Through MACS 366: Film Festivals, organize, produce, and promote the annual Illinois Student Film Festival
- A variety of media-related student organizations
- The campus student-run organization Illini Media (home to The Daily Illini newspaper, The Illio yearbook, WPGU 107.1 FM, and more)
- Illinois Public Media, including the Illinois Student Newsroom at IPM
- Community engagement opportunities
- Producing individual and team-based projects
- Internships and fellowships
