Faculty and students win awards at AAA conference

College of Media faculty members and students won multiple awards at the 2019 Annual Conference of the American Academy of Advertising (AAA) in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Chang-Dae Ham and Dr. Sela Sar, both associate professors of advertising, won a Research Fellowship Award for their study on ad blocking and online behavioral advertising.


First-year PhD student Chen (Crystal) Chen won the conference’s Top Student Paper Award for her paper on the persuasive effects of VR advertising.


PhD student Regina Ahn, who recently successfully defended her dissertation, was awarded the Academy’s Dissertation Fellowship.


And PhD student Shili Xiong won a Student Travel Fellowship.


With over 600 members, AAA is the oldest and the largest academic association dedicated to advertising research in the U.S. During the three-day gathering of over 250 researchers from around the country, Illinois faulty members and students presented their work at 12 out of the 101 competitively selected sessions and gave talks at multiple pre-conference workshops and special panels.


Collectively, nearly 15% of an entire national conference featured University of Illinois.
