Faculty members receive awards at American Academy of Advertising Conference
Congratulations to Brittany Duff and Ewa Maslowska, faculty members in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising, who received awards at the 2020 American Academy of Advertising conference, held virtually in March.
Duff, associate professor of advertising, was the runner-up for the Journal of Advertising best article award for “Advertising in a Media Multitasking Era: Considerations and Future Directions,” co-authored with Claire M. Segijn.
Maslowska, assistant professor of advertising, received a research award for her proposal: “Which leads to better political advertising experiences in social media? The role of personalization, context, and source in social media political advertising.”
The AAA Conference also featured several presentations by advertising faculty members and doctoral students from the College of Media’s Institute of Communications Research:
- “Exploration of Food and Beverage Appearances in Child Influencers’ YouTube Channels: A Content Analysis of Ryan ToysReview” presented by Professor Michelle Nelson, MS advertising alum Jasmine Moultrie, ICR alum Regina Jihea Ahn (University of Miami), and Marijke De Veirman (Ghent University)
- “The Role of Hypocrisy Induction and Self-Construal Theory in Public Service Advertising for Stopping Illegal Downloading” presented by ICR students WooJin Kim and Un Chae Chung
- “The Effects of Affect: The Influence of Mood and Arousal on Processing Search Engine Result Page Snippets” presented by Associate Professor Chang-Dae Ham, and Jackson Carter and Jing Taylor Wen (both University of South Carolina)
- “Are Selfie Styles Universal? Exploring How Culture and Technology Influence Visual Self-Representational Styles in Consumer Selfies for Consumers from Russia and the U.S.” presented by ICR student Olga Shabalina, Professor Michelle Nelson, and Elena Trofimenko (South-Ural State University)
Sela Sar, associate professor of advertising, was last year’s AAA vice president and an organizer of the conference.
