Holden receives teaching award

Ben Holden, teaching assistant professor in the Department of Journalism, has received the Teaching Excellence Award from Illinois Student Government. The award is the highest honor that the student body has for educators at Illinois.

Students nominate educators who have had a significant impact on their academic experience. The Teaching Excellence Awards are open to any TA, instructor, professor, or lecturer. The Academic Affairs committee votes on the nominations.

Holden’s nomination came from a student in Media Law 311. She stated:

Bill Nack '66 JOURN, dies at 77

Bill Nack, legendary sports journalist and 1966 University of Illinois alumnus, died April 13 at his home in Washington, D.C., due to complications from cancer. He was 77 years old.

Nack is most known for his book-turned-film Secretariat about the 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat.

Growing up in Skokie, Illinois, Nack spent his time cleaning horse stalls. It was the 1955 Kentucky Derby that introduced Nacks to his first favorite horse, Swaps.

When it does, University of Illinois journalism professor Benjamin Holden, through a two-part legal study, is ready to make the case for challenging the offenders.
