Holley honored by IJEA

Holley headshot

Lynn Holley, lecturer in journalism, was honored by the Illinois Journalism Education Association at its fall conference as the 2017 Friend of Scholastic Journalism. Holley has served as executive director of the conference for 14 years and has also served as an at-large board member of the organization.

Holley will retire at the end of the academic year. Ken Erdey, also a lecturer in journalism, will take over as organizer of the annual conference.

Finalists for Student Silver Dome Awards

Congrats to recent UI journalism students who are finalists for Student Silver Dome Awards from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. The winners will be named at IBA Student U conference at ISU in Normal October 6. Being a "finalist" means these students will win first place, second place or honorable mention awards. The UI-7 News finalists below compete against entries from ISU, EIU, College of DuPage, SIU and Lincoln College.

Dan Balz Wins the 2017 John Chancellor Award

Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism announced today that Dan Balz, an American political reporter and author, is the recipient of the 2017 John Chancellor Award for Excellence in Journalism. Balz is the chief correspondent of The Washington Post and one of the country’s most trusted political reporters. He joined the company in 1978 and has been involved in the Post’s political coverage as a reporter or editor throughout his career.

Wirtz is ranked in the top 1 percent of recently published research in terms of media coverage and social media mentions, according to Altmetric, a digital science company that analyzes online attention to academic research. Wirtz’s article is ranked 864 out of the 232,922 journal articles, books, encyclopedia entries, and other scholarship published in the last year and tracked by Altmetric.
