Journalism students head to Washington for career/internship visits

A group of ten undergraduate journalism students will spend part of their 2016 spring break learning about career and internship opportunities in Washington, D.C. Over two days, the students will tour eight to ten media outlets in the nation’s capital and meet with U of I alumni in Washington.

The group has appointments to visit The Washington Post, Politico, NPR, Sirius XM, the Pentagon’s press and public relations office, ABC News Washington bureau and Capitol Hill press offices. Pending security approval, they may even get the chance to visit the White House.

Media Career Night

College of Media students are invited to attend Media Career Night on Thursday, March 10.

The keynote speaker, Rick Kaplan, and panelists will share advice about:

  • breaking into the job (and internship) market
  • the skills and experiences needed to get ahead and how to share them with potential employers through your resume, cover letter, portfolio, etc.
  • thriving in the many fields where your skills are relevant and in demand

A Daily Illini article by Journalism student Leah Pearlman was mentioned in Politico's Illinois Playbook on Tuesday, March 8. Illinois Playbook is billed as “Natasha Korecki’s must-read rundown of political news in the Land of Lincoln.” Korecki is a 1996 Journalism graduate of the College of Media at Illinois.
