Journalism students win NATAS Mid-America Student Production Awards

Several journalism students in the UI7 Newsroom team were recognized as winners of the 2023 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Mid-America Student Production Awards. 

Winners include journalism graduate student Manu Ferreira for “Succeeding in a New World” in the Non-Fiction - Long Form category; journalism and political science dual-degree undergraduate student J. Sidney Malone for “Egg Prices” in the Multimedia Journalist category; and journalism undergraduate students Emmie Larson and Adrian Carrasco for “Illini Sports Night Pregame Special for Illinois Women’s Basketball” in the College Sports Program category. The pregame coverage was also the first show that Illini Sports Night aired on the B1G+ network. (Pictured above is the Illini Sports Night pregame show team.)

Ferreira and Larson also earned a nomination for “UI7 Live Special Report: Decision 2022” for live coverage of the 2022 election in the category of College Newscast. In addition, Malone was a finalist in the News Report - Light News category for “Egg Prices Are Up. Should You Buy a Chicken?”
