Message on diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism

Dear College of Media Community,

Media in all its forms has always served as a window into the systemic racism that produces and perpetuates the kind of violence, threats, and unjust practices we have witnessed with alarm recently. At this moment, we feel particularly compelled to affirm the value of Black lives.

As the College of Media, we acknowledge the central role that media plays in shaping national conversations and we emphasize our collective duty to ensure that our work expands and elevates those conversations for the public good.

We pledge to increase our efforts to challenge the multiple forms of violence and prejudice visited on African Americans and all people of color. In so doing, we commit to redoubling our efforts to reimagine diversity and justice in higher education. Each one of us in the College of Media has the potential to contribute in a significant way to these efforts.

As we work together within the College and with colleagues across campus to further support diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism, we will continue to share updates with you.

Sincerely,
