Molina-Guzmán invited to participate in White House conference

Isabel Molina-Guzmán, Associate Professor of Media & Cinema Studies and Latina/Latino Studies, has been invited to participate in an all-day conference “Advancing Equity for Women & Girls of Color: A Research Agenda for the Next Decade.”

The conference is co-hosted by the White House Council on Women and Girls and the Anna Julia Cooper Center at Wake Forest University.  Molina-Guzmán will serve on the panel “Images and Representations.” The panel will assess the existing state of media representations of marginalized women, the extant research on the topic, affirmative progress that has been made, and the new questions that need to be addressed.

Molina-Guzmán’s work on media images of the Latina body and how they shape public knowledge about Latina identity is seen as critical to understanding the real impact that media representations of women and girls of color have on their lives.

The hope is that this conference will bring wide attention to the critical need for increased research about women and girls of color. The conference will also initiate the development of a research agenda for the next decade to substantively increase the scope and specificity of knowledge. This agenda will inform scholarly projects, policy interventions, and foundation investments addressing women and girls of color with the goal of advancing equity.
