The College of Media is hosting a free film screening of "Voices of Stagg" on Nov. 1 at the Art Theater in downtown Champaign. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 7:30. A panel discussion will follow.

"Voices of Stagg" is a documentary about how one high school turned a tragedy into a lesson on empathy.

Department of Advertising assistant professor John G. Wirtz delivered the keynote address at the 17th Annual Martha Nelson Lewis Symposium, hosted by the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. The topic of the talk was using social media to promote health behavior change.

Beretta, Jordan, Cassie and Gaitlynn,” a photograph from Assistant Professor of Journalism Charles “Stretch” Ledford’s project, “The Cultural Geography of Firearms,” has been selected for the “Power and Politics” exhibition at the Filter Photo Gallery in Chicago.  The image is part of Ledford’s series of portraits of families with children named after guns.

ABC7 Chicago has announced that Judy Hsu will take on the 4 p.m. news achor role with the retirement of Linda Yu. Hsu has been with the station since 2001. She will work alongside Rob Elgas beginning November 24.

Elaine Quijano of CBS News will moderate the 2016 vice presidential debate. It will take place on Oct. 4 at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

Quijano is weekday anchor on CBSN and also anchors the Sunday CBS Weekend News. As a correspondent with CBS News, her reports regularly appear on “CBS This Morning,” “The CBS Evening News” and “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Brett Lerner and his father, Rich Pomerantz, used to spend a lot of time watching ESPN. The two joked about Lerner being the next Mike Greenberg. During Lerner’s time at the U of I, he displayed the skill and determination required to make that kind of career possible – even though Lerner wasn’t an athlete and didn’t have any high-level connections.
