David E. McCraw, a 1976 journalism graduate from Monticello, Illinois, will be the 2017 College of Media convocation speaker.

McCraw is vice president and deputy general counsel for The New York Times. He has a master’s degree from Cornell and a JD from Albany Law School.

Illinifest Student Film Festival, presented by the students of MACS 464 at the College of Media at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign announces its Call for Submissions of short films in the Midwest Student and World Competitions. The festival will be held on Saturday, April 29th at the Lincoln Hall Theater on the Champaign-Urbana campus.

Julian Parrott, associate dean for student services and academic affairs, traveled to China in August to participate in the Journalism Education Association-China inaugural convention at Duke Kunshan University. Parrott presented a keynote speech and also served as a student mentor/coach and as a competition judge at the convention.

Christopher Benson, associate professor of journalism, will deliver the keynote address at the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event. 

The event is a countywide celebration held this year at Parkland College. It includes award presentations and a reception. The event is free and open to the public.
