Remembering Brett Lerner

By Rich Martin

The front page of today’s Daily Illini is dedicated to the memory of Brett Lerner, a junior in Broadcast Journalism who was killed Friday evening in an automobile accident while on a sports assignment. His classmates, teachers, advisers and friends all describe him as a remarkable young man – someone who was smart, hardworking and a pleasure to be around. The Department of Journalism and the College of Media were fortunate to count him as one of our students. He will be missed.

Brett was 20 and the son of Richard and Susan Pomerantz and Jeff Lerner. A service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Temple Chai, 1670 Checker Road, Long Grove, Ill. Burial will follow immediately at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 West Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Shiva will be held 6-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Pomerantz home, 2839 Sandalwood Road, Buffalo Grove, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Orphans of the Storm.
