Archives Acquires Ebert Materials

An important part of the legacy of the noted film critic, Urbana native, and U of I alumnus Roger Ebert has come home to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, thanks to a recent donation from the Chicago Sun-Times.

Passes for 20th annual Ebertfest on sale Nov. 1

Passes for the 20th annual Roger Ebert’s Film Festival, or “Ebertfest,” coming next spring, will go on sale Nov. 1.

The passes cover all 12 or more screenings during the five-day event, April 18-22 at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign. Related talks and panel discussions will be held at the Hyatt Place hotel in Champaign and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Ebert to be inducted into Chicago Literary Hall of Fame

Pulitzer Prize winning film critic, Roger Ebert, will be inducted into the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame in August. Chaz Ebert will accept the award on her late husband’s behalf.

Roger Ebert graduated from Illinois in 1964 with a degree in journalism. He was awarded the Illinois Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism in 2014.

Illinois Public Media celebrates Ebertfest 2016 with new companion documentary

In celebration of the 18th Annual Roger Ebert’s Film Festival, Illinois Public Media (WILL-AM-FM-TV) —in partnership with the College of Media at the University of Illinois—produced Ebertfest 2016: Center of the Universe. This thirty-minute companion documentary covers the life and legacy of Roger Ebert as well as the history of the festival. It also includes a short preview of Ebertfest 2016.
