Wright to celebrate 30 years with the Sandage Department of Advertising
Congratulations to Janette Bradley Wright, administrative aide for the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising, who recently celebrated her 30th anniversary working at the University of Illinois—February 2020 will mark 30 years with the Department of Advertising.
"This job never gets boring," Wright said. In her position, she provides sole administrative support to Professor Mike Yao, head of the Department of Advertising, in the planning and administration of daily activities and departmental work functions related to faculty, students, alumni, University personnel, and the public.
Over the years, Wright has seen many changes in leadership, consisting of permanent, interim, and acting heads, but one of the biggest differences is Advertising's growth.
"When I first started in the department in 1990, there were only seven to eight permanent faculty, and now we are at 20," Wright recalled. "The department is in the process of hiring two additional faculty by August 2020."
A highlight of her career involved hosting graduate students at her home for a special celebration.
"In 2001, there were eight African American students accepted into the MS Advertising graduate program. Dr. Linda Scott, the department head, took time out of her busy schedule to write a letter of support on behalf of each student to receive a one-year Graduate College fellowship, and they all received the fellowship that year. To celebrate, I invited all the students to a soul food dinner at my house, and I invited Dr. Scott."
Wright said it has been great working with all the faculty and staff members in the College of Media through the decades. "The faculty in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising are the best!"
