IJEA

IJEA Fall Conference

The Illinois Journalism Education Association Conference has been helping to build skills and tenacity in high school journalists for generations.

Friday, September 20, 2019
8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Illini Union
1401 W. Green St., Urbana

Keynote Address: Melissa Forman, WLIT-FM

IJEA 2019 keynote

About the Keynote

Melissa Forman's radio career started in Champaign, Illinois, where she worked as an intern and received her first break imitating Bart Simpson on Mix 94.5. That break led to an incredibly successful five-year, on-air teaming with her partner, Jerome Ritchie. She then moved to Cincinnati where she worked at Mix 94.1. In 1999, she moved home to Chicago where she worked at WKIE-FM 92.7/5 (KISS FM). In 2001 she started hosting morning drive at WLIT-FM 93.9 in Chicago until August of 2009 with a team she loved.

Her on-air radio adventures have taken her flying at six Gs in fighter jets, hot air ballooning live on the air, sitting in 17,000 seats in chilly November at Memorial Stadium in order to raise money for a children’s charity, and living in a shopping mall for four straight days.

DIRECTIONS
From I-74:
Exit at the Lincoln Avenue exit. Turn onto Lincoln heading south (toward campus). At the intersection of Lincoln & Green, turn right onto Green (heading west). The Illini Union will be to the left on Green, (approximately 3 blocks) just before the intersection of Green and Wright. If you are traveling by bus, pass the Union and turn right at the next street (Wright). Stop just around the corner on the right at the bus shelter for passengers to disembark and walk to the Union.

PARKING
Parking for buses is available in the State Farm Center parking lot, E-14, on the south edge of campus. Lot E-14 is between Oak and First streets, south of Florida Avenue and just west of the State Farm Center. Longer buses will need to be parked in the State Farm Center parking lot. A CU-MTD bus picks up at that lot and takes riders to the Illini Union. See schedule here.

The bus dropoff spot nearest the Illini Union is on Wright Street, just north of Green. See the map (link above) for complete details.

If you arrive by car and wish to park in a metered space near the Illini Union, a limited number of spaces have been reserved for IJEA. These spaces are available at the cost of $19 each in advance. Others may choose to bring a roll of quarters and feed the meters as needed.
