Kamryn Grey
Get to know some of our College of Media students! Kamryn Grey is a Class of 2024 media and cinema studies major.
What's the most important thing you have learned since being a media and cinema studies (MACS) student?
I learned this a little bit last year—making connections, being nice to people, and just keeping in touch with people, even friends in the same major. The people who you meet at Ebertfest (Roger Ebert’s Film Festival) for example, I recently reached out to one of the directors I met there. He reached back out to me, and we've been talking. It's just nice to meet new people and talk. I think it is very important to network and put yourself out there [even though it can be] really scary to go up and talk to these adults.
Could you explain the internship you're in right now?
During my internship I did videography, photography, and editing with the Cancer Center at Illinois. I have interned there since this summer. It's fun because I get hands-on learning experience with the camera and I am learning how to edit. During the school year, our schedules were really heavy on editing; my editing skills have improved vastly. The work team there and the environment is really nice. I do two hours a day. I have needed something besides my classes to keep me refreshed on my skills and this is a very good way to do it.
Are you more interested in production or post-production?
Production. Although this internship was editing nonstop, it changed my view on the editing side of production. The reason why I didn’t like it before was because I didn’t know what I was doing, and it takes time to get the hang of it.
