The Students of MACS464: Film Festivals Invite You to the 3rd Annual Illinifest Student Film Festival
The 3rd Annual Illinifest Student Film Festival will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Lincoln Hall Theater from 11am-8pm, admission is FREE to all. The 2017 festival received 138 submissions of short films. Of those 31 from 11 countries and campus were selected to screen in four categories: Documentaries, U of I Student, Midwest Student, and World. These films will be up for 17 awards including: Grand Jury, a Best Picture Award for Midwest Student and World categories, as well as Best Director, Best Ensemble, and Best Cinematography in those categories, there will also be an Illini Student Award, Social Impact Award, and many more.
In addition to film screenings Illinifest 2017 will hold two panel discussions, Film Funds: Gaining Access to Producers and Financiers and Pitching Your Project, and Art and Activism: What Responsibility Do Artists Have in Activism and Social Justice?

Film Funds:
Nicole Bernardi-Reis, Executive Director, Independent Film Project (IFP) Chicago. She has produced television series and films for a wide range of broadcast outlets including A&E, E!/Style, HGTV and the Science Channel. She was a guest at Ebertfest 2016 as a producer of the film Radical Grace. Bernardi-Reis is a 1995 UIUC Journalism alumna.
Brett Hays, co-owner and lead producer at Shatterglass Studios.
Art and Activism:
Dr. Janice Collins, an award-winning journalist and faculty member in the College of Media at UIUC.
Eric Chaudron, Executive Director of SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local.
Both panels will be moderated by The News-Gazette Arts Reporter Melissa Merli. Panelists’ and moderator full bios will be posted on the Illinifest website shortly.

Illinifest Student Film Festival is a celebration of student and professional short-filmmaking, curated by students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Our mission is to create a platform for diverse voices in filmmaking and expose our campus and community audience to short films from all over the globe. The Midwest Student category showcases works by students at the U of I and all over the U.S. Midwest to help pave a path for their films. The World Competition presents short films by filmmakers all over the world in an effort to engage our local audience in a dialogue about film and film culture.
