2017 360° Sports & Entertainment Camp

Information for Campers
July 9 - 14, 2017

Welcome to the College of Media at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign!

We are excited to spend a week with you having fun and learning about various ways media plays crucial roles in the sports and entertainment industries.

Bring these with you to the first day of camp.

Arrival
Please plan to arrive at Nugent Hall, 207 East Gregory Drive, Champaign, IL 61820 on Sunday, July 9, 2017 between 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

If you are arriving by plane, train, or bus, please inform us of your arrival time, airline, flight number, etc. (whatever information would be useful) for emergency purposes. We can arrange for pickup from the airport or train station as necessary, please just let us know if you will need this. Contact Kyle Potthast, kpotthst@illinois.edu or 217-300-5715.

There are no phones in the rooms at Nugent Hall. Messages may be left for students by calling:

Please be aware that the participants will be out of their rooms from around 8 am – 8 pm on most days, and they are asked not to make phone calls during sessions. They can make phone calls during brief breaks between sessions and meal times.

Check Out
Check out will be from 2:00 – 3:00 pm on Friday, July 14, 2017.

General Regulations
Students are expected to abide by the rules as specified in the Student Contract. Students are to sign this contract and bring it on the first day of camp (July 9) for submission.

Medical Emergencies
Emergency Medical Information forms will be on file with the Program Coordinator and Nugent Hall staff.

Identification
Please bring a driver’s license or student identification card with you to 360° Sports & Entertainment Camp. It is important for your safety that you always have some form of identification with you throughout the program. Additionally, we may have field trips that require ID to enter a facility. Students who do not have an ID will not be permitted to attend these sessions.

Clothing/Personal Items
The temperature in July can be incredibly hot and humid. The classroom, experiential, and immersion activities are air-conditioned. Therefore, layering or bringing a sweater/sweatshirt in case the air conditioning is too cool is recommended. Nugent Hall air conditioning is also quite powerful, so warm clothes for the dorm rooms are also recommended.

Shorts and t-shirts are encouraged during day sessions. Clothing that is not allowed includes: spaghetti strapped shirts, t-shirts with offensive slogans, and shirts that don’t cover the midriff. Skirt length should reach 6” above the knee or longer. At least one pair of comfortable shoes are recommended. There will be some walking between activities and during potential field trips.

Students will receive a College of Media tote bag. It is recommended that this be used to transport items to and from activities and field trips. 

Students are encouraged (but not required) to bring laptops or tablets to take notes during presentations. There will be computers available for teams to work on projects.

Nugent Hall will provide bed linens, blankets, pillows and towels. They have coin laundry available.

Supplies
Supplies for the group projects will be provided. Students need not purchase/bring their own.

Photographs
Photographs of 360° Sports & Entertainment Camp will be taken on a regular basis by faculty and staff, as well as possible local media. Please sign the Photo Consent Form bring it in on the first day of camp (July 9) so that your photographs may be used for promotional content.

Banking
ATMs are readily available if needed.

Laundry
Laundry facilities are available from coin-operated washers and dryers in Nugent Hall.

Any student who engages in disruptive behavior, doesn’t attend sessions, or fails to participate in program activities may be sent home (without a refund). Students who attend camp on a scholarship will be required to pay the full tuition if sent home. Please see the Student Contract for more information.
