Rev. Wilson leads LGBTQ+/POC-focused policy advocacy organization
Reverend Jason Carson Wilson (BS '99, journalism) became founding executive director of Bayard Rustin Liberation Initiative, a Washington, D.C.-based policy advocacy organization focused on same-gender-loving (SGL)/LGBTQ+ people and people of color, in April 2018.
Wilson has also served as minister of social justice education and advocacy at University Church in Hyde Park, Chicago, since November 2018. He previously served as Justice & Peace Policy Fellow in United Church of Christ, Justice & Witness Ministries' Capitol Hill office from June 2016 to June 2018. Wilson was one of 11 faith leaders from around the world who participated in the 2017 Ethics of Reciprocity Conference at the United Nations, which confronted discrimination and violence against LGBTQ+ people. Wilson earned a Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary in May 2016 after a 20-year career in journalism.
