Student-run film festival streams online
The UIUC Student Film Festival is an annual celebration of the creativity and diversity of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign filmmaking communities. Each spring, students in MACS 464: Film Festivals learn the history, functions, and value of film festivals, and then gain experience organizing, producing, and promoting their own film fest. The event is normally screened in a theater on campus, but has streamed online due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
Students, filmmaking clubs, and production classes are invited to submit short films of all genres—comedy, drama, music, dance, video essay, documentary, experimental, animations—plus home movies and TikToks. The class makes the final selections for the program and the audience votes for their favorite films, with winners receiving gift cards.
