Tracy Sulkin
Dean of the College of Media
Professor Tracy Sulkin was appointed dean of the College of Media in 2018. She joined the faculty at the University of Illinois in 2002 after earning her Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
Prior to becoming dean, she served as the College of Media’s interim executive associate dean and held administrative positions in the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, including as associate head for undergraduate programs and director of graduate studies. She has been a fellow of the Big 10 Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program and the University of Illinois President’s Executive Leadership Program.
A political scientist by training, Sulkin's research and teaching interests focus on American politics and political institutions, especially the U.S. Congress. She is the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in teaching and is the author or coauthor of numerous articles and three books on legislative behavior, communication, and representation, including Issue Politics in Congress (Cambridge University Press, 2005), The Legislative Legacy of Congressional Campaigns (Cambridge University Press, 2009), and Legislative Style (University of Chicago Press, 2018). Her work has been recognized by several best book and article prizes and she has held appointments as a College of LAS Romano Professor Scholar and Centennial Scholar.
