Social Media Certificate
Social media is more than a trend—it’s an important part of the media industry. It is an effective way for brands and influencers of all shapes and sizes to build brand awareness, drive word of mouth, and attract customers. The Social Media Certificate provides context and knowledge for everyone from the casual social media user to the aspiring social media manager. The certificate is 12 credits, requires four courses, and is open to all undergraduate students.
Please note that certificates do not appear on a transcript. Admission to the certificate does not guarantee registration in certificate courses.

Requirements:
- ADV 305: Advertising Technology and the Digital World (3 credits)
Choose two (6 credits):
- ADV 301: Becoming an Influencer
- ADV 201 (previously ADV 290): Social Media and Personal Branding
- ADV 290: Social Media for Social Justice
- JOUR 102: Navigating Social Media
- JOUR 311: Media Law or JOUR 310: Media Law in Historical Context (you may not receive credit hours toward graduation for taking both of these courses)
Choose one (3-4 credits):
- ADV 480: Social Media Analytics
- ADV 491: Digital Content and Social Media Management
- MACS 140: Smartphone Cinema
- MACS 150: Introduction to Digital Media Production
Once you have completed all certificate coursework, please fill out the Social Media Certificate Completion Form to receive your certificate.
