Three days in March
A group of U of I journalism students is headed to New York City over spring break in 2017 to visit about a dozen media outlets to learn about career and internship opportunities. The students will be meeting with influential media leaders at each stop and with U of I alumni who work at those outlets. The trip will be held March 22-24, 2017.
Journalism students have been going to New York for about ten years under the leadership of faculty member Lynn Holley. She has taken previous students to online media, to magazines and newspapers, to broadcast outlets, networks and some other media companies.
This year’s trip is being led by John Paul, a lecturer in journalism. “This is a great opportunity for students to meet face to face with media leaders and alumni,” Paul said. “These visits and connections can help them land jobs and internships among some of the most innovative media companies in the world.”
The 2017 journalism trip will visit the New York Times, Vice, MSNBC, In Style magazine, Business Inside, Skift, New York Magazine, Fast Company, MLB.com and others.
One of the traditions of the New York trips is for the students will share pizza and an informal chat with U of I alumni one of the evenings they’re in New York.
