IBA award winners announced

University of Illinois journalism students won five Student Silver Dome Awards at the Illinois Broadcasters Association Student U conference Oct. 6 in Normal, Illinois.

First place:
Best TV sports package

Finalists for Student Silver Dome Awards

Congrats to recent UI journalism students who are finalists for Student Silver Dome Awards from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. The winners will be named at IBA Student U conference at ISU in Normal October 6. Being a "finalist" means these students will win first place, second place or honorable mention awards. The UI-7 News finalists below compete against entries from ISU, EIU, College of DuPage, SIU and Lincoln College.

Students recognized at national competition

The Society of Professional Journalists has announced the national winners of the 2016 Mark of Excellence Awards, recognizing collegiate work published or broadcasted during 2016.

The awards honor the best in student journalism. Winners and finalists were previously recognized by receiving first-place in one of the SPJ’s 12 regional competitions. Each first-place regional winner advanced to the national competition.

JOURN students receive IBA internships

U of I journalism students Alejandra Reyes Pena and Alyssa Rege have been selected for paid summer internships through the Multicultural Internship Program of the Illinois Broadcasters Association. The program competitively selects student applicants from universities across the state and places them at Illinois television and radio stations. 

Pena will be at WMAQ TV/NBC 5/Telemundo in Chicago and Rege will be at WLS TV/ABC 7 in Chicago.
